“Forever Free”

Limited palette 🎨 white on white Alla prima.

Using an ‘Old Masters’ technique Alla prima which refers to a direct painting approach where paint is applied wet on wet without letting earlier layers dry. In Italian, the term alla prima means “at first attempt”. Paintings created in this approach are usually completed within a single session. This task is to complete the painting using predominantly a variety of warm & cool white paint + additional complimentary colours in order to mix many ‘100s’ of different shades of white within 1 x 2-3 hour session ….such a very challenging but thoroughly enjoyable assignment! It requires sharp focus & concentration as you mix the plethora of shades and using many different sizes of brushes to strategically place paint on the canvas, avoiding blending as this can result in a muddy & ugly effect. 🐴🐎🤍 🎨🖼

I adore horses & often dream of them and I love to incorporate them in my artwork. Along with other symbolism, I often believe that for me the white horse symbolises freedom.
